8 Reasons to Love being a Girl Scout
At Girl Scouts of Northeastern New York, every day is filled with pride for all we do to help girls become leaders. This month, in honor of Valentine’s Day, we’re sharing the love and highlighting eight reasons why it’s great to be a Girl Scout!
Courage, confidence, and character
From our programs to our camps to our troop leaders, everything we do centers around giving girls the tools they need to be succeed in life.
Going for the Gold
Only about six percent of eligible Girl Scouts earn our highest honors, the Gold Award. Projects must be sustainable and leave a lasting impact -- such as installing solar gardens or building a community garden -- and once achieved, it shows colleges, employers, and communities that girls out there are changing the world.
For girls, by girls, with girls
Research shows that girls learn best in an all-girl, girl-led, and girl-friendly environment. Girl Scouts is a place where she’ll practice different skills, explore her potential, take on leadership positions — and even feel allowed to fail, dust herself off, get up, and try again.
Go-getters, Innovators, Risk-takers, Leaders
When you’re a Girl Scout, you’re also a G.I.R.L. (Go-getter, Innovator, Risk-taker, Leader). Our Girls go on to be pediatricians, travel the world, and make the world a better place.
Lifetime of Leadership
As a Girl Scout, you get hands-on career networking experience. From creating take-action plans to traveling to to Washington, D.C. to camping with female CEOs , there’s so much to learn from participating.
Yes, they are delicious, but did you know they have a secret? The Girl Scout Cookie Program not only powers amazing adventures for girls, it teaches girls five life skills they need to be future business leaders: goal-setting, decision making, business ethics, money management, and people skills.
Summer fun at summer camp
Girls who attend one of our five camps over the summer try new and exciting experiences, explore the wonders of nature, enjoy traditional camp activities and adventures, and create cherished memories that will last a lifetime.
Our volunteers are the true heroes and at the heart of everything we do at Girl Scouts. They are the cheerleaders, guides, and mentors that help Girls develop essential life skills and confidence that will last a lifetime.
