Girl Scouts of Northeastern New York Partners with Athleta for Earth Day!

50 Girl Scouts from across the greater Colonie/Guilderland/Delmar/Glens Falls area engaged in a clothing re-use and recycle event with Athleta.  Athleta is a retailer of women’s activewear with a mission of empowering women and girls, and a focus on sustainability in environmental impact.  Girl Scouts of Northeastern NY builds Girls of courage, confidence, and character, who make the world a better place.  Through a partnership with Athleta, Crossgates Mall, Girls from the local area collected used women and girls clothing, which will be re-used through Athleta’s partner company Thred-Up or recycled, cutting down on clothing in landfills.  The Girl Scouts experience features many community services, and this effort will lead to a half ton of clothing avoiding landfills. For their participation, Athleta offered a store card for their use.  On May 16th , Athleta will open one hour early with shopping experience exclusive to Girl Scouts from 10-11 am.  Register by sending an email with the names of your Girls and Troop Number to Meena Lee, Director of Volunteer Services: mlee@girlscoutsneny.org .
