Girl Scouts of Northeastern New York (GSNENY) Resolution on Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion
WHEREAS diversity includes differences in race, color, ethnicity, nationality, cultural background, gender, gender expression, gender identity, sexual orientation, socio-economic status, age, ableness, familial status, marital status, military status, predisposing genetic characteristics, pregnancy-related condition, status as a victim of domestic violence, physical and/or mental characteristics and capabilities, religious beliefs, political beliefs, lifestyles, experiences, interests, and all these vast diversities exist among the GSNENY community;
WHEREAS diversity must be celebrated in the spirit of inclusion;
WHEREAS Girl Scouts has, at the heart of its mission, a commitment to building girls of courage, confidence, and character, who make the world a better place;
WHEREAS Girl Scouts promise to live by the Girl Scout Law, making the world a better place and being a sister to every Girl Scout;
WHEREAS equity entails the fair treatment, access, opportunity, and advancement for all, and allowing individuals to obtain that which is needed to reach their full potential, including different needs for different individuals;
WHEREAS inclusion entails authentically bringing traditionally excluded individuals and/or groups into processes, activities, and decision/policy making in a way that shares power and ensures equal access to opportunities and resources;
WHEREAS GSNENY's Task Force on Diversity, Equity and Inclusion has examined the current climate of GSNENY;
WHEREAS diversity, equity, and inclusion must be represented and resources and materials must equitably provide conditions and practices that embrace the diversity of experiences and perspectives;
WHEREAS GSNENY commits to developing recommendations to address areas for continuous improvement and implementation with how we ensure that GSNENY is an organization that is proactive, welcoming and inclusive;
WHEREAS GSNENY is committed to creating relevant and impactful experiences and services that reflect the lived experiences of participants;
WHEREAS GSNENY recognizes the value of diversity, equity, and inclusion as essential to enriching to the mission of Girl Scouts;
Be it therefore RESOLVED, that
GSNENY is committed to fostering attitudes, behaviors, practices, and knowledge that promote and enhance diversity, equity, and inclusion; and
GSNENY’s commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion will be reflected in GSNENY at all levels -- in the organization's culture; in the behavior and actions of individual staff; in the actions and perspectives of the collective Board and individual Board members; and in the ways in which resources and services are developed, delivered, and marketed to reach and serve all participants.
