The Need

■ Experiential Learning Hubs:

Girl Scout places serve as immersive learning environments where girls engage in hands-on experiences, fostering leadership, resilience, and teamwork through outdoor and indoor adventures and learning opportunities.

■ Digital Detox:

Girl Scout camps provide respite from digital overload, a place to connect in real life and take a break from the pressures of social media and cell phones. When girls disconnect from screens and tech, they can truly connect with themselves and the leader within.

■ Environmental Stewardship:

Camps provide a unique setting for girls to connect with nature, instilling a lifelong appreciation for the environment and planting the seed of environmental stewardship.

■ Safe and Inclusive Spaces:

Girl Scout places offer an atmosphere where girls develop confidence, independence, and crucial life skills in a supportive community.

■ Diverse Skill Development:

Camp and headquarters programs encompass a range of activities—from outdoor skills to STEM—that complement formal education and nurture well-rounded individuals.

The Problem

Our current portfolio of camp and service center properties is well-loved and in need of repairs and updates due to years of use and limited resources. These cherished facilities are rare third-spaces for girls and truly integral to the Girl Scout Mission. The maturing of these infrastructures now poses a multitude of challenges that limit our opportunities for programming, such as:

  • Aging Facilities: Declining cabins, outdated facilities, worn-out amenities, and the rise of severe weather events jeopardize the safety and comfort of campers and staff.
  • Limited Program Opportunities: While the location is ideal, the physical condition of our current headquarters does limit diverse programming, and does not reflect an inviting and inspiring space for girls to gather.
  • Financial Impact: Lower income earned from camp rentals results in a higher operational cost for our camp properties, diverting funds away from other critical council functions like financial aid and girl-serving programs.
  • Environmental Impact: Without focus and attention, camps are at risk from the natural causes of nature and invasive species in the water and forests.

■ Safety:

Upgrades to buildings and infrastructure will ensure the care, cleanliness and comfort girls, volunteers, and staff.

■ Growth of Program Opportunities and Outcomes

Learning outcomes will rise as attendance at camps and on-site programs grows. We will meet essential benchmarks toward socio-emotional learning and leadership development.

■ Environmental Stewardship:

Proactive stewardship will result in healthy pest-resistant forests and effective stormwater management.

■ Financial Gain:

As the capacity for earned income increases due to attractive rental options, this new revenue stream will, in turn, provide more revenue to serve girls and power amazing experiences.
