You believe in the power of Girl Scouts

Create your legacy with a planned gift

The first planned gift in the Girl Scout Movement came from our founder, Juliette Gordon Low. After converting the carriage house of her home into the first Girl Scout national headquarters, she gifted the property to Girl Scouts in her will. Carry on her legacy and make Girl Scouts a beneficiary of your estate plans when you become a member of the Juliette Gordon Low Society.

Make a planned gift to Girl Scouts toggle arrow

Making a planned gift to Girl Scouts can include naming Girl Scouts as the beneficiary of any of the following:

  • Will

  • Retirement plan

  • Charitable gift annuity

  • Living trust

  • Donor-advised fund

  • Life insurance policy

  • Charitable remainder trust

  • Charitable lead trust

  • Remainder gift of real estate

  • Any other gift that benefits Girl Scouts in the future

Leave A Planned Gift In Your Will toggle arrow

Gifts by will are one of GSNENY's most important sources of support. Unrestricted gifts give us the greatest flexibility to use funds where they are most needed.

You may leave GSNENY:

  • A stated dollar amount
  • A percentage of your residual estate (what remains after gifts to loved ones and expenses have been paid), or
  • Specific liquid assets, such as securities

We recommend consulting your attorney or financial adviser to establish a new will or trust or to amend your existing documents.

Sample language to include:

Girl Scouts of the USA or Girl Scouts of Northeastern New York is to receive the sum of $_____ and/or ____ percent of the rest, residue, and remainder of my estate. This bequest is unrestricted. The board or other governing body may use and expend the bequest in any manner it deems appropriate.

Name Girl Scouts as a Beneficiary toggle arrow

Naming Girl Scouts of Northeastern New York as a beneficiary on your retirement account or life insurance policy is a simple and powerful way to support the lifesaving work of our organization without changing your will or living trust. Beneficiary designation gifts pass directly to GSNENY without going through the probate process and go right to work to help us build girls of courage, confidence, and character.

Retirement accounts

Some donors name GSNENY as a beneficiary of all or a specified percentage of their IRA, 401(k), 403(b), or other retirement plan.

Individuals who inherit retirement plan assets are usually required to pay income tax on them, so they're often considered among the best assets to leave to charity.

How to name GSNENY as a beneficiary on your retirement accounts

Ask your retirement plan administrator or financial institution for a change of beneficiary form. Please list us as:

Legal Name: Girl Scouts of Northeastern New York, Inc.

Address: 8 Mountainview Ave., Albany, NY 12205

Federal Tax ID #: 14-1438466

Notify us of your beneficiary designation

Please let us know when you’ve made a beneficiary designation for MSF so that we can thank you and include you in our Legacy Society.

Notify us of your intention.

Other ways to name GSNENY as a beneficiary

Bank and investment accounts & commercial annuities

You can leave a legacy by naming GSNENY as a Transfer-on-Death (TOD) or Payable-on-Death (POD) beneficiary on a bank or investment account, or a commercial annuity. Check with your financial institution to see if this option is available to you.

Life insurance policies

If you have a life insurance policy that is no longer needed for your family, designating GSNENY as a beneficiary is a simple way to support our work.
