Service Unit Delegates

Council Delegates and Alternates are a crucial part of governance at GSNENY because they are the vital link for policy-related concerns between the Girl Scout members they represent and the governing board of the Council. They do this by listening to the members in their Service Unit and bringing any policy-related concerns to the Annual Meeting of the Members.

About Service Unit Delegates toggle arrow

Council Delegates and Alternates serve a 1-year term starting December 1st. Delegates must be 14 years old on or before September 30, a valid member of Girl Scouts, and registered through the Council throughout the duration of their term. Alternates have the same duties as delegates. Girl Scouts teaches leadership skills and being a delegate is a perfect opportunity to foster those skills.

Each Service Unit shall be entitled to elect one delegate and one alternate for every 100 girl members, or partial increment thereof, as of September 30, up to a maximum of 5 delegates per service unit. Elections are held between 10/1 – 11/30 and 10% of members age 14 and over present and voting are required to elect their delegates.
